Menstruation is a phenomenon unique to the females. Menarche is a milestone in a woman’s life as it denotes the start of reproductive capacity. In 1950, Miller,1 defined a frenum as `a membranous fold which joind two parts and restricts the individual movement of each.” Partial ankylossia refers to congenital shortness of the lingual frenum or a frenal attachment extending to the tip of the tongue, binding the tongue to the floor of mouth and restricting its extension (Brightman 2001 and Shafer 2003)2,3. It is more common in boys than girls (Nevile et al 2002). Ankyloglossia is diagnosed in 3.2% (Kotlow 2004)4 of pediatric patients and occurs in 2 to 3 of every 10,000 adults (Nevile et al 2002)5

Evaluation of Effectiveness of Free Gingival Graft to Increase the Zone of Attached Gingiva
Author : Rajni Patle
Gingival recessions are often associated with genetically determined anatomic situations like an insufficient amount of keratinized gingiva, frenal pull, tooth malposition, dehiscence and fenestration of facial osseous lamella but the most common cause of the recession defects is abrasive and traumatic toothbrushing (Agudio et al 1987, Lindhe and Karring 1997). On the other hand improper oral hygiene, subgingival calculus formation and periodontal disease can cause progressive loss of attachment and displacement of gingival margin apically reducing vestibular depth.
